The MTC Graff Tee is a salute to the visual expression of Hip Hop culture which is called graffiti or aerosol art. Graffiti artists started hitting up in their New York neighborhoods as early as 1968. They tagged their names with spray paint everywhere they could. Eventually this evolved into doing murals called “bombs” on subway trains. Subsequently when these trains would make their way around the city they carried the artwork, as well as the artists name. Naturally this was called going “all city”. Furthermore it was a source of pride for the artists to have their work seen and admired by fans, and other graffiti artists around New York City.

As is always the case the competition was fierce. The artists risked their freedom as bombing trains and other public property without permission was and is still highly illegal. They even risked their lives as it was very dangerous getting to these trains to hit them up. All for the love of the art form.
